As the climate heats up, many migratory birds arrive here earlier in the spring. One example is the Eurasian blackcap. It follows the weather and has been arriving on Öland an average of 10 days earlier than in the late 1970s. Other birds, such as the white wagtail, are guided by daylight and arrive on almost the same date every year. Climate change might lead to the birds arriving before the insects – their food – come out of hibernation.
